NZ's alternative to Cars

Some bike-likes

It is a pain to maintain a car for low frequency users in the CBD considering the parking, theft and infrigement tickets! We know NZ is not famous for its public transportation, but you can somehow managed to survive in Central Auckland without a car. Some alternatives to a full-on car can be considered.

Motorbike

Also called as Motorcycle. Basically the most powerful alternative to a Car. It can hit to 100km/h which means it caters to all the roads.

It is fast, powerful and can be riden on all the roads including highways. Need to take the Motorcycle driving licence, need to do WOF, need to do Rego and of course, helmet is compulsory.

Me telling my friend that I might want to have a motorbike.

Him: Yeah yeah, good choice, my bro used to loving motorbikes.

Me: What....about him now? lost interest?

Him: Nah, not losing interest, just died in a car accident some years ago.

Me: ......

Moped

Moped is a weaker form of Motorbike. Basically if your engine size is smaller than 50cc, then it's a Moped. Almost everything else is the same, you can ride on a highway, you need to have a helmet, you need to register and license your moped.

Besides, you don't need to sit a Moped License. As long you have a NZ driving license, you are ready to go. And WOF is no longer needed.

E-Bike

Electric Bike is a further slim down version of Moped. Basically it's not a full auto option from here. Sometimes you need to ride with your own leg power. Good side is that registeration is no longer needed, driving license is off-loaded as well, helmet recommended but not compulsory. However you cannot ride it on a highway and maximum 25km/h

E-Scooter

The simplest option here. You have to stand on your electric scooter and not powerful at all considering the slopy roads in Auckland. Good side is you have further less limitations from the E-Bike. Plus, you can ride it on the pavement.
